Tomorrow, Friday, March 7, is a Teacher Workday for Franklin area schools, Highlands School & Nantahala School. Students will return to class on Monday, March 10th. Enjoy the long weekend!
The next meeting of the Macon County Board of Education and the Macon County Board of County Commissioners Joint Liaison Committee will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2025, 9:00 a.m. in the board room of the Macon County Schools Administrative Offices, located at 1202 Old Murphy Road, Franklin. Discussion will include ongoing projects throughout the Macon County School System, potential projects throughout the Macon County School System and other business as necessary.
The Macon County Board of Education will hold their Regular Scheduled Meeting on Monday, March 24, 2025 beginning at 6:00 pm at Highlands School, located at 545 Pierson Drive, Highlands, NC.

March is School Social Worker Month!
This month, we want to take a moment to show our heartfelt gratitude to our amazing school social worker- Mrs. Annie Breedlove Wishon. Her unwavering support, care, and dedication make a world of difference for our students, helping them navigate challenges and thrive in school and life. Thank you Annie for all that you do! Reminder: Early Dismissal this Wednesday!
Students will be dismissed at 11:30 AM this Wednesday, February 26, 2025.
Following student dismissal, our staff will be participating in a Staff Development afternoon to continue growing and improving for our school community.
Due to freezing temperatures and the possiblity for black ice, Macon County Schools-Franklin area will operate on a 3-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, with no buses on icy roads. Road conditions will be closely monitored and if a remote learning day is needed, additional updates will be released.
Due to current inclement weather conditions, Macon County Schools- Franklin area will now have a Remote Learning Day for today, Wednesday, February 19. Stay safe & warm!

2025 Graduation Dates & Locations:
Macon County Schools will accept preschool applications and complete develpmental screenings for the 2025-2026 on Friday, March 7 and Friday, March 28, 2025. Appointments are required for screenings. Contact Valerie Norton at 828-524-4414 ext. 1041 for more information or to schedule your appointment.
Just a reminder, this Friday, February 14th, will be a Teacher Workday for all schools throughout the Macon County School System. Students will return to class on Monday, February 17th.
