Santa made a special visit to our Central Office today to spread holiday cheer to our adorable Pre-K students! The little ones were overjoyed to meet Santa, share their wishes, and even snap a photo with the jolly man himself!
The magic of the season is alive in our halls, and we couldn't be happier to share these joyful moments with our youngest learners.
Yesterday, East Franklin elementary connected with Mitchell County Schools and had a Christmas party . East Franklin took half a bus, a van and a truck load of supplies and gifts for the OCS students and the entire high school staff. Ms. Miletti and her assistant, KiKi from Franklin High School, Ms. Coggins and her assistant Ms. Wilson from Blue Ridge High School with their OCS students, Mr. Pendergrass from Smoky Mountain High School and 17 student leaders from the HS along with Ms. Foxx, office manager at Jackson County Chamber of Commerce were in attendance. Everyone had a wonderful day with lots of new friendships made among students and adults. East Franklin plans to remain in contact and continue to see how they can support each other. A special shout out to Hannah Cole’s of Sylva, NC that donated the Hills to Hollers hoodie for the 40 students in the OCS class at Mitchell County and to Ms. Miletti's class that made t-shirts that read Appalachian Strong. Also a special shout out to Jackson County Superintendent Dr. Dana Ayers who provided the pizza for the party, and the the MCS CO that sent a ton of supplies!

Disaster SNAP, a food support program administered by NCDHHS, is one of the relief programs available to counties affected by Hurricane Helene. Disaster SNAP will bring up to $120 million in short-term food benefits to households across Western NC, but we need help to get the message out to families and help them enroll. Applications are only open for 7 days, from Friday Oct.18 through Thursday Oct. 24! Please help us reach families in your school communities this week.
A few high-level notes on Disaster SNAP
(1) Families will get funds on an EBT debit card that can be used to buy groceries and hot food
(2) The program income limits account for disaster-related expenses and losses in income/wages, meaning that families who may not have been eligible for SNAP prior to the hurricane could still be eligible for Disaster SNAP.
(3) Income limits and benefit award is based on household size; a family of 5 may be eligible to receive up to $1,158.
(4) ALL families can apply for Disaster SNAP. Immigrant and undocumented families can also apply and foreign passports are an accepted form of ID.
(5) Families who are already enrolled in SNAP benefits through NC Food and Nutrition Services do NOT have to apply for Disaster SNAP.
Bus Drivers Needed!
