Macon County Board of Education
Macon County Board of County Commissioners
The Macon County Board of Education will hold a joint meeting with the Macon County Board of Commissioners on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 6:00 p.m., in Courtroom A of the Macon County Courthouse.
During this joint session, capital projects will be discussed as well as other business as needed.
Just a reminder, Franklin area schools will dismiss at 11:30 am this Friday, December 16, 2022. Students in the Franklin area will return on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.

Macon County Schools hosted in-service training for staff to build capacity for serving students with autism.
This training included parent perspectives, sensory and academic supports.
Macon County Schools- Franklin area- and Macon Early College will be in session on Monday, November 21 and Tuesday, November 22, 2022. There will be no school for students and staff on Wednesday, November 23- Friday, November 25, 2022. Students and staff will return on Monday, November 28, 2022.

STEM Hour of Code Event!
Newly elected Board Members Diedre Breeden and Stephanie Laseter will be given their Oath of Office on Monday, December 5, 2022 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Board Room of the Macon County Schools Administrative Offices.
Immediately following the Oath of Office ceremony, a Special Called Meeting of the Macon County Board of Education will be held. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the roles and responsibilities of all Board Members and to elect a new Board Chair, Vice-Chair and two Joint Facilities Review Committee Members.
Other business as needed including personnel, policy, etc. may also be conducted.

Our regular scheduled meeting of the Macon County Board of Education will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 beginning at 6:00 pm at Nantahala School.

The School Nutrition Department will celebrate National Chocolate Day on Friday, October 28th, by giving students who get lunch a free chocolate chip cookie!
Macon Early College (MEC) is currently accepting student enrollment applications for the 2023-2024 school year.
MEC is a high school in Macon County offering a smaller academic environment that fosters growth and success. The early college program prepares students for college, career, and life by developing relationships, responsibility, and respect through relevant and rigorous coursework. MEC serves grades 9-13 and is fully integrated into the Southwestern Community College system. Students have the opportunity to graduate in four or five years with a high school diploma and a two-year Associate’s degree with transferable credits to a four-year university.
Applications are available on their website at mec.macon.k12.nc.us under the Parent Information tab. The deadline to submit an application for rising 9th graders is February 17, 2023 and for rising 10th and 11th grade students the deadline is March 17, 2023.
