Due to current icy road conditions and projected freezing temperatures throughout the day, Macon County Schools-Franklin area-will now be closed. This will be an optional teacher workday.
Due to current road conditions and the possibility of black ice, Macon County Schools-Franklin area- will operate on a 3-hour delay for today- Friday, January 19, 2024, with no buses on icy roads.

Due to the predicted frigid temperatures that will create challenges for bus operations, Macon County Schools-Franklin area will operate on a 2-hour delay, tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2024 with no buses on icy roads.

MACON COUNTY- NC SHERIFF'S OFFICE
At approximately 2 o’clock p.m., Macon County 911 Dispatch Center received a threatening call against Mountain View Intermediate School.
Multiple law enforcement agencies and other emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene. All Macon County Schools were immediately placed on lockdown as a precaution. Officers made entry into the school and were able to secure the premises to confirm that there was no active threat. The lockdowns were lifted after the area was deemed secure.
There is an ongoing investigation to determine the source of the initial call; law enforcement does not believe there is any current threat to Macon County Schools at this time.
The Lockdown for Franklin area schools has now been lifted. Buses may still be delayed. Additional information will be forthcoming.
Out of an abundance of caution, all schools in the Franklin area are on Lockdown. More information will be released as soon as possible. Buses will be delayed.

The Macon County Board of Education will hold their Regular Scheduled Meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024 beginning at 6:00 pm at Iotla Valley Elementary School, located at 1166 Iotla Church Road, Franklin.
