Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! The work our teachers perform goes far beyond the classroom. They collaborate with families, engage with communities, and provide the kind of mentorship and guidance that will shape our students' lives for years to come. Teachers inspire our children to be curious, to be confident, and to be passionate about their dreams. Join us this week in saying THANK YOU to our teachers throughout the Macon County School System!

Every year during the month of May, the Macon County School System joins the national movement to raise awareness about mental health. On Tuesday, March 28, the NC Center for Safer Schools Executive Director Karen Fairley and a member of her staff visited the Macon County School District. Ms. Fairley met with Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin and his leadership team to discuss school safety in Macon County. Following a group discussion, Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin and Safety and Security Coordinator Robert Holland gave Executive Director Fairley and her staff member a tour of Union Academy, Franklin High School, Macon Middle School and Mountain View Intermediate School. During the tours, Director Fairley spoke with administrators, teachers and students regarding any concerns they may have regarding safety and security. Superintendent Dr. Chris Baldwin stated, “It was a privilege to have someone who has a vested interest in our students and staff to come all the way from Raleigh to the far west.” Ms. Fairley has already made plans to return to Macon County in the near future to further build on the working relationships with members of our schools system. Dr. Baldwin concluded “School safety remains a top priority for Macon County Schools and any information or assistance we can get from our leaders in Raleigh is always welcomed.”
